Index Ventures起源于瑞士债券交易公司Index Securities，该公司由Gerald Rimer于1976年创立。1992年，Rimer招募了儿子Neil加盟该公司，并共同发起了其技术投资部门，该部门将发展成为一个独立的实体Index Ventures。
