Jews for Jesus Suing Google
Reuters has a very interesting article about Jews for Jesus suing Google Inc. to take control of the site jewsforjesus.blogspot.com. They also want some money to boot.
This is a really interesting situation, I am curious to see how this works out. I have no idea which way a judge would rule on this case.
On one hand it’s Google’s name they should be able to do what they want, maybe tell them if they are close to using it in a way that might be trademarked to make some changes. Like I noticed a site that had Coke.xxx.com and they had the Coke colors and all they graphics were copied from their site. Ok this is obviously wrong, but should they just take down enough stuff so it does not violate their trademark, or should they have to give up ownership?
On the other hand, if it is a trademark violation (maybe just having the sub-domain name is a violation) then I could see the judges giving them what they want.
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Christian evangelical group Jews for Jesus is suing Google Inc., saying a Web log hosted through the Internet search leader's Blogspot service infringes its trademark.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Wednesday, seeks to force Google to give Jews for Jesus control of the site as well as unspecified monetary damages.
Google's Blogspot and Blogger services allow people to set up Web logs, or online journals known as "blogs" for short, for free. A Google spokesman declined to comment, saying the firm had not yet reviewed the lawsuit.
"One of the wonderful things about the Internet is that there is freedom of expression, but there should be a protection ... so that organizations like ours can represent ourselves," Perlman said.
